General knowledge only

This book contains only general knowledge information on Maine Coons. All information can be easily found on the Internet. I expected to find more specific info.
Very Helpful

As a new Maine Coon owner, I found this book very useful, in dispelling the facts from fiction.
I find I refer to it still, just as a reference to my cats Character.
I highly recommend this book to any prospected Maine coon owner or even current owners.Maine Coon Cats (Complete Pet Owner's Manual)
not the same index

This book is helpful to new cat owers. But one of the reasons I got this book was to see what pepto bismol had to do with cats. It wasn't in the book so I'm guessing the wrong index image was scaned. Now I still don't know why.....
maine coon

this short and to the point book on the maine coon cat was just what i was looking for. i have always had cats in my home, and just recently got a maine coon. i wanted to know more about this breed, if he needed anything special, and generally what to expect of my new cat.
this book explained all this and more. lovely the pictures. love my new cat. cat lovers would enjoy the company of one of these loving creatures in their home!
Great for the Novice Maine Coon Owner

Shortly after my father passed on and mom and I decided to "pool" our resources, our old cat also passed on after twenty-one years. So, after a month, we went to the local SPCA and adopted this kitten labelled "American Wirehair." In six months, we had an engaging monster of a cat on our hands. I had to take her to the vet for shots, and the vet remarked - "What a beautiful Maine Coon." I did not have the foggiest idea what the man was talking about, and did some homework. This book was part of that, since this cat exhibited behaviors I had never seen in a feline - love of playing with water, not just "talking" but positively "gabbing" with her tail, liking to be close but not in a lap, playing fetch, emotional range, and an almost eerie canine ability to problem solve. And in puzzling out this remarkable addition to our home, this book was very useful and clear in its explanations as to how the Maine Coons may have evolved their unique behaviors and high intelligence, how to treat and handle them, as well as care tips that are simple and quick. It was a great primer on what many pros in cat breeding call "the gentle giant."

I notice that many less than favorable reviews in this thread come from professional breeders and exhibiters. I am in no way qualified to speak to either, and I take them at their word that this book is not useful for those purposes. But for me - the accidental tyro owner - it really helped me understand my "dog in a cat suit."

Recommend.
