It has three distinct parts: 1) Introducing the cats in the family (the number stays at about nine), 2) Tour and welcome to the cat's house, a bright beautiful home on a hill overlooking San Diego, and 3) how to build and place cat walks and cat play/roam areas to enrich and stimulate the cats and as well as save the beautiful Central and South American crafts and artwork.
The author, Bob Walker, and his wife are deeply appreciative of art and their cat family. The cats are like moving artwork as they travel throughout the home on high beams, special stairs and perches. The home is like entering a fantasy-land, full of color and creativity. The home combines art and function - the thought that went into the design to please the cats is amazing.
I had also seen the home on TV, it is an extraordinary place and a true labor of love.
This is the perfect book for all cat lovers, and do-it-yourself home improvers. It has detailed instructions on how to build cat ramps, poles, stairs and a retirement home for cats.
The Cat's Meow
I ordered this book because I have one kitty who likes to be UP HIGH. I thought I could make my condo look like this fantastic cats' house. Of course, it was too much for me to do alone, but the photos are wonderful and the author explains how he made the seamless transition from wall to beam. He has an open house once a year in San Diego where he lives.
In the end, I ordered a kitty condo from Amazon.com at a very good price I might add. Now the book is on my coffee table and the kitties browse through it when I'm not around!

We saw a segment of a show on the Animal Planet featuring the Cats House and had been trying to find a copy of the t.v. show or some more information about this house....we didn't have Bob Walkers name or know it was called the Cats House and had been trying to explain to our carpenter what we wanted to do in our house. Many months later, while researching another topic on cats, i came across this book, which is exactly what we had been searching for. We bought this book and also Cats Into Everything and love them both. We have between 20-30 cats at a time (rescues and adoption/rehoming) ,plus two German Shepards (and yes, they all get along well and even play and sleep together ) and they already have three large outdoor enclosures which are insect proof with tunnels between them and connecting to two different parts of the house via cat doors in the windows. Now they will have Cat Heaven On Earth inside the house as well as we seek to re-create and maybe even elaborate on what the Walkers have done!
Interesting book
I was looking for some ideas to let my cat run around the walls of the den
from his tower. Very interesting ideas but, I needed something that was
not attached to the walls permanently.

The Cat's House
This book is a classic. I've bought at least 8 copies for gifts for friends who've gotten new kittens or new homes.
What a joy it would be to live in a house like this. It almost makes me want to get some cats of my own.
